Former Ohio State QB Art Schlichter indicted on possession of drugs charge

Schlichter is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 3.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State University quarterback Art Schlichter was indicted last week on a felony drug charge.

In February 2024, two troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped after seeing a disabled vehicle on East Hudson Street and Hamilton Avenue in the Linden area.

Body camera footage shows troopers approaching Schlicter, who said he busted a tire after hitting what appears to be a curb in a construction area.

Schlicther asked the troopers if they could help push his vehicle, but they couldn't because the axle appeared broken.

Records from the Franklin County Municipal Court state that the trooper saw drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Schlichter, who was standing outside the disabled vehicle, gave the trooper two crack pipes out of his pocket before being taken into custody, according to court records.

The trooper searched the vehicle and found a silver paper fold with small white rocks. Schlichter told them they were "crack" rocks, according to court records.

Schlichter was serving probation stemming from a drug charge in 2022. He is charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 3.
