According to a crash report from the Brooklyn Police Department, 18-year-old Trent Mooney of West Farmington was heading westbound on 480 at approximately 5 a.m. As Mooney was approaching the Tiedeman Road overpass, his car struck a guardrail just west of the Tiedeman off-ramp.

The collision caused Mooney's car to overturn and strike a tree on the east side of the creek that runs between Tiedeman Road and the bottom of the off-ramp. Police say Mooney was ejected from the car.

"Today we heard the extremely sad news that early this morning Trent Mooney died in an automobile accident," the Cardinal Local School District wrote in a Facebook post on Monday evening. "I know we are all saddened by his death and send our condolences to his family and friends."

The district offered grief counseling at Cardinal High School on Tuesday. A GoFundMe account for the Mooney Family can be found here.
