GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — Two suspects are in custody after a tow truck driver was allegedly assaulted in Chester Township.

Police say on Tuesday, Oct. 22, they received a call that a tow truck driver had been assaulted by two individuals while repossessing a vehicle at Mayfield Church in Chester Township.

According to police, the initial investigation revealed "that the tow truck operator had successfully removed the vehicle from the owner's residence and secured it in the church parking lot when the incident occurred. As he was preparing to leave, a vehicle approached rapidly, blocking his exit."

Officials say two individuals then exited the vehicle and confronted the driver. One of the suspects was allegedly armed with a handgun and pointed the firearm at the tow truck driver, demanding the repossessed vehicle.

"During this confrontation, the tow truck operator was physically assaulted and forcibly removed from his vehicle at gunpoint. The armed assailant discharged his weapon in the direction of our victim prior to entering the repossessed vehicle and leaving the area," said Chester Township police in a press release.

Chester Township police arrested both individuals involved in the incident. They have been charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and aggravated menacing.

Officials say additional charges are likely due to the ongoing investigation.

The Geauga County Prosecutors Office assisted the Chester Township Police Department, Geauga County Sheriff's Office and the Lake County Sheriff's Dive Team.
