According to the Geauga County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a fully engulfed, two-family apartment structure fire on Linda Dr. in Newbury Township on Friday, March 4. Upon arrival, Deputy Michael Wilson was informed that everybody in the home had been safely evacuated, but that there was a disabled family member still in the attached apartment next to the unit that was on fire.
Risking his own safety, Deputy Wilson entered the apartment, which was starting to fill with smoke, located the family member in his bedroom and brought him to safety.
"Wilson’s quick and selfless actions prevented what could have resulted in a very much different outcome," the County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post. "We would like to commend Deputy Wilson on his actions and dedication to our community. Thank You Deputy Wilson!"
