CHARDON, Ohio — Similar to many other Northeast Ohio Board of Election offices, Geauga County has a line for early voting pretty much all day long.
Pete Zeigler, director of the Geauga County Board of Elections, says he expects the lines to continue.
“I expect the in-person voting to remain busy and it's open for an additional hour this week,” says Zeigler.
Like other Northeast Ohio counties, there is a clear uptick in voting trends.
“Four years ago for the presidential election, there were a total of just over 18,000 early votes cast,” says Zeigler.
When the polls closed Sunday, October 25th, more than 31,000 early votes had been cast. We still have a week left to go, meaning early voting numbers will continue to rise.
“I expect to see record totals but because of the volume of votes we’ve had. Its quite possible that more than half of the registered voters in Geauga County will have voted before election day,” says Zeigler.
So whether you plan to drop off your absentee ballot, wait in line and vote early in person, or vote on election day, election officials want all registered voters to make time to cast a ballot.
“I hope that every voter has come up with a plan to vote. It’s so important that we all take part in our election and we’re happy to be able to serve our community here,” says Zeigler.
