GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that took place in Geauga County on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened on State Route 528 in Montville Township just after 4:30 p.m. Investigators say a Buick Lucerne driven by 60-year-old Linda Figer was going north on 528, then went left of center and struck a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was hauling a full-size gooseneck horse trailer.

Both vehicles went off of the road and came to rest in a ditch. Figer was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck remained at the scene, while one passenger was taken by Life Flight to University Hospitals in Cleveland. A second passenger from the truck was taken to Geauga County Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Both drivers and the front passenger in the pick-up truck were wearing their seatbelts.
