CHARDON, Ohio — The Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre is expecting a lawn packed with cars, people, and fun on Friday night in celebration of Juneteenth, a holiday intended to celebrate the effective end of slavery in the United States.
The drive-in is anticipating more than 300 families for tonight's gala starting at 8 p.m. and ending at 1:30 a.m. There will be food trucks, fireworks, a live band, and a DJ for this sold-out event.
Two films will be shown tonight on the big screen for the movie-goers to enjoy:
The first film, "Just Mercy," is a 2019 legal drama about real-life attorney and social justice activist Bryan Stevenson. The movie tells the true story of Walter McMillian, who with the help of young defense attorney Stevenson appeals his murder conviction.
The second film will be "Black Panther." The 2018 American superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and grossed a worldwide total of $1.347 billion.
