Multiple departments respond after fire breaks out in Middlefield Township

The fire broke out Thursday night in the 13800 block of Station Road.

GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio — Flames filled the night sky as firefighters battled a blaze Thursday night in Middlefield Township.

The Charon Fire Department said they responded to the scene with a tanker and ladder truck as the structure fire burned in the 13800 block of Station Road.

“21 additional departments also responded due to limited water,” according to a tweet from the Chardon Fire Department.

The Middlefield Fire Department posted new details on the incident Friday morning, noting there were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.

"Crews arrived to find heavy smoke in the area, and quickly determined the source to be a large manufacturing facility," according to a post on the department's Facebook page. "Crews entered the building to find the seat of the fire, and encountered poor visibility and heat conditions. Crews were withdrawn from the building, and a defensive strategy declared. Shortly after, fire broke through the roof of the building."

The department, which had responded to the scene shortly after 8 p.m., said it took crews several hours to bring the fire under control. The situation remains under investigation.

Burton Windsor Road was also closed between Old State Road and Hale Road as a result of the fire, according to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.
