CHARDON, Ohio — A woman claims a man struck her dog with a golf club while looking for his ball off of Chardon Lakes Golf Course this past weekend.
The woman, identified as Jennifer Evans, told police she heard her dog Milo yell and cry out while sitting in the backyard, which is adjacent to the 12th hole on the course. Evans told the responding officers Milo appeared to have been hit by a club, and that she only briefly saw the golfer before he left the yard.
Evans first posted about the incident on Facebook, writing that "Milo was not threatening or even barking" before being hurt. The alleged attack made national headlines and caused outrage on social media.
"Apparently the foursome just continued to play on," Evans continued. "Milo’s nose was bleeding and he wouldn’t open his eyes. I took him to the ER vet; fortunately his injuries are only soft tissue, and vet says he should be ok."
According to Chardon police, investigators have identified the man accused of hitting the dog and spoken to him, but the person is not yet being publicly named as the Geauga County prosecutor reviews the case. Officials added that managers at Chardon Lakes were "very cooperative with the investigation and (were) instrumental in helping to identify the subject involved."
"Milo is at home where he is recovering with his family," police added.
