CLEVELAND — A student was arrested for possessing a "look-alike" replica gun at West Geauga High School's football game against Hawken School in Chesterland on Friday night, school officials said.

According to a letter to school families signed by West Geauga High School Principal Ryan Patti and district superintendent Rich Markwardt, the student apprehended was from another school district and was taken into custody after possessing "what appeared to be a firearm."

"Upon investigation, it was determined to be a replica or 'look-alike gun,'" the officials wrote.

Patti and Markwardt said no one was harmed and that the Chester Police Department "responded promptly" and took the student into custody.

"The safety and security of our students, staff, and community members remain our top priority," they wrote. "We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. We will provide updates as appropriate, while respecting the privacy of those involved and the ongoing legal process."

3News has reached out to Chester police for more information on the incident.

The district officials said the incident "serves as a reminder of the importance of our safety protocols and the need for continued vigilance."
