CHARDON, Ohio — Chardon Square is facing some uncertain times as 3 shops - considered staples of the community -- are closing.
Valentines Antiques, Circa and The Mane Shoppe will close their doors on Sunday, January 12th.
Each business made the announcement about the closing right after Christmas in posts on social media. The owners of Valentine Antiques plan to start a new venture in Perry called Valentine Auctions. The owner of Circa is still planning to offer customers stained glass orders and repairs.
Business owners say online shopping is the reason some antique shops in Geauga County are dying off.
"People come up to Chardon, or they've lived in Chardon for five years, and they have no idea we're here," says Melanie Yatsko, owner of The Mane Street Shoppe.
Not everyone is leaving though.
'Antiques on the Square' will celebrate its 35th anniversary in March.
"I'm very sorry and sad to see them (Circa, Mane Street, Valentine's) go," says Pat Martin, owner of Antiques on the Square. "We've worked very well together. It's a group that as antique shops were a destination."
Both Valentine and Circa will be holding sales to clear their inventory over the next 10 days.
