CLEVELAND — The Greater Cleveland Aquarium has announced several opportunities for keeping young learners engaged and learning about aquatic life this fall. The aquarium education department will be hosting online classes, virtual field trips and on site homeschool options.
“We want to continue to foster that sense of wonder and curiosity that accompanies any Aquarium visit,” explains Education Director Erin Carpenter. “All of our programs are live, so young learners can see a shark, stingray, skink or other animal in real-time and ask an educator their questions about its appearance or behavior in that moment.”
Online family programs: 25 minutes long, held at at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on weekdays. Pre-registration is required, $12 - $25 per household. “ … they’re almost like private VIP tours with an expert," says Carpenter.
Virtual field trip: Options for 20 to 60 minute sessions include Aquatic Story Time (pre-kindergarten - 1st grade), Habitat Exploration (kindergarten - 2nd grade), Aquatic Adaptations (3rd - 5th grade), Shark Conservation (6th - 8th grade), Shark Exhibit Encounter (available for all grades), Stingray & Coastal Encounter (available for all grades), Animal Cameos (available for all grades) and Full Virtual Tours (available for all grades). All field trips are based on Ohio Learning Standards guidelines.
On-site family homeschool options: These Aquarium experiences include same day admission. Topics include: Diets and Food Chains; What is Conservation?; Coral Reefs; and Camouflage & Hiding (kindergarten - 3rd grade), and Enrichment; Plastic Pollution; Squid Dissection; and
Biomimicry (4th - 8th grade). Each session is 75 minutes and limited to 10 people. $10.95 per child/student. $14.95 for adults.
