NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — Editor's note: The video above is from a previous story related to the Ukraine humanitarian effort.
Cleveland Maidan is a grassroots organization that formed in 2014 to help provide financial aid to families of fallen or wounded veterans. They've also been on the forefront of Cleveland's recent relief effort aimed at providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Over the last few months, Cleveland Maidan has focused on sending aid directly over to Ukraine with food/clothing, meals, medical equipment and gear as well as financial aid from donations, charitable foundations and volunteer groups.
The list below, provided by Cleveland Maidan, is a detailed rundown of everything sent over to Ukraine as of July 10.
- Sent over 310,000 (~155 tons) of humanitarian aid (food, clothing, medical supplies, hygiene items, bedding) over to Ukraine
- Served 2,500 hot meals to refugees at the Ukrainian-Polish border back in March
- Purchased and sent 220 trauma first-aid kits to first responders on the front lines
- Spent over $130,000 in medical aid purchases, for everything from gauze to tourniquets to insulin, delivered to various cities in Ukraine
- Financed the purchase and delivery of 19 ambulances or other rescue vehicles to be used for delivery of humanitarian aid and search & rescue missions in Ukraine
- Sent over 615 units of firefighter gear (donated from fire departments in Ohio and Michigan) over to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine
- Purchased 41 generators to be used in various cities across Ukraine
- Funded two manufacturing facilities in Western Ukraine that produce first aid kit bags, stretchers, and thermal sleeping bags
- Sent over $465,000 in financial aid to nonprofit organizations, charitable foundations, and volunteer groups working in Ukraine, $90,000 of which went to helping refugees and internally displaced families
In an effort to keep the aid going for those living and helping in Ukraine as the war continues, Cleveland Maidan will host a charity event at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in North Royalton (9672 State Road, North Royalton, OH 44133)
The event will take place on Saturday July 23, from 2-10 p.m. and will be free admission to anyone interested in attending. The event will feature a concert, Ukrainian dishes and activities including face painting, henna tattoos, crafts and more.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to help the Ukraine humanitarian effort.
