CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio — For seven years now, the town of Chagrin Falls has taken the New Year's Eve ball drop to a yummy level: Hoisting up a giant ball of popcorn, to drop at midnight.
This year? Bigger and better than ever. In fact, Mr. "Hugh Mungus," the popcorn ball, is six times the normal size, weighing in at 233 lbs.!
They'll hoist Mr. Mungus up 50 feet to the top of the town's flag pole, using several pulleys. Starting at 11 p.m., town members fill the triangle for dancing, music and fun. Then at midnight, the popcorn drop!
When the clock strikes 12, employees of Chagrin Hardware will blast more than 200 balls of popcorn through their self-made popcorn blaster, to the waiting crowd.
This free, family event has a special, message, too: If you stop into Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop, where Mr. Mungus was made, make sure your kiddos grab an "Act of Kindness" sheet. The business is asking young children to write acts of kindness instead of New Year's Resolutions.
Some will be read at the ball drop! For more information, click HERE.
