LAKEVIEW, Ohio — After two weeks of cleanup following an EF3 tornado that hit Logan County, Indian Lake State Park welcomed back visitors ahead of the summer season.
The park officially reopened on Friday, March 29, however, Fox Island will remain closed for the time being due to ongoing cleanup efforts.
For boaters in the lake, modifications to the no wake zone will be implemented for added safety due to possible debris in the lake with additional buoys being placed between Paradise Island east to Orchard Island and from Orchard Island to Moundwood.
The park posted a statement to Facebook saying, "The tornado caused trees to be uprooted and left the park in a state of disarray. Getting the debris out has been no small task, but the ODNR staff and volunteers were able to do just that, all in two weeks time. Fox Island is still closed to the public due to tornado damage and hazardous limbs."
The Indian Lake State Park campground also reopened, honoring existing reservations, including those for the upcoming total solar eclipse.
“Ohioans are resilient, and we have been diligent in assuring the health and safety of residents in the weeks following the tornadoes and severe storms in Western Ohio,” said Gov. Mike DeWine. “Indian Lake State Park is a wonderful destination for Ohioans and visitors to enjoy fishing and outdoor recreation, and its reopening is a step towards rebuilding our communities.”
