CLEVELAND — U.S. weekly jobless claims have dropped to the lowest since 1969.
Now businesses and corporations are having to get creative in order to fill positions with Northeast Ohio being no exception.
Cleveland Clinic is aiming to change that.
The clinic hosted a community career expo on March 26 at the Langston Hughes Community Health & Education Center.
Cleveland resident Robyn Gunter worked at Cleveland clinic back in 2017.
"I'm currently in nursing school and trying to finish up," Gunter said.
Now, Gunter is back to blazing the job hunt trail.
When she heard about the clinic's career expo she registered, came to the expo to apply and was offered a job on-site. And the same senario followed for many others looking for work.
Gunter said, "I think its a great opportunity to get people back into the work field especially after how Covid went for the last two years."
While job claims have been declining, falling from a record high of nearly 6.2 million since early April 2020 and Covid-19 restrictions across the country have been lifted, the strength in the job market calls for a big push to fill roles and quickly.
Healthcare corporations like Cleveland Clinic especially are looking to fill numerous jobs.
The clinic says the main goal of today's job fair is breaking barriers.
Melissa Burrows, Director of Talent Acquisition of Cleveland Clinic said, "I think individuals are intimidated by large organizations" adding, "we're opening up our doors so that individuals can come in and we're creating a welcoming environment."
The clinic jobs offered include positions range from house keeping and transport services to registered nurses, patient care nursing assistance and working in the community as a patient support specialist.
Burrows said, "we're holding their hand from start to finish and then having community resource and our partners assist them as well."
Added incentives are what set the job fair apart from others.
Partners of Cleveland clinic provided some special perks for those who interviewed and are being considered for a job.
Community resources like a free haircut, Dress for Success Cleveland, RTA, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and Step Forward were among other partners providing resource services to those being considered for Cleveland Clinic employment.
