STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — Despite many businesses forced to close during the coronavirus pandemic, one Northeast Ohio company is beating the odds, and poised to add hundreds of new jobs.
To look at a company like Union Home Mortgage, you'd hardly know the world shut down for a year. Right in the middle of it all, they began expanding their corporate campus in Strongsville, paving the way for 450 new jobs, some of which they're hoping to fill in a virtual career expo they're holding this week.
The expo is a two-day event. It starts Wednesday, March 24, going from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and continues on Thursday, March 25, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Christina Fagan, executive director of the Union Home Mortgage Foundation, says the expo is an opportunity for job seekers to see a different side of the company.
"What's really cool is the expo shows a little bit more about our culture and connects those job seekers to some of our resources and benefits and the ways that our partners get connected with each other in the community as well."
Low mortgage rates were part of why UHM thrived, but unlike a lot of traditional financial institutions, their focus on creating a progressive, tech-savvy workplace allowed them to easily transition their 1,300 employees to remote work when everything shut down.
It's also become an in-demand employer, as UHM has been named nationwide top workplace six years in a row, because of its culture and commitment to its employees, who are referred to as partners. UHM CEO, Ohio native Bill Cosgrove was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020.
During this week's career expo, the company's looking to hire more than 100 new partners to fill sports in more than 15 departments.
"We have a lot of career roles that people might not normally think of," Fagan said. "Everything from finance to marketing, to HR resources and more."
The event will include live webinars, where you'll be able to connect with company leadership and recruiters to see if this is where you want to be.
