2 children struck in hit-skip incident while getting off school bus in Willowick; police searching for female suspect

Officials say both children were taken to the hospital.

Two children have been taken to the hospital after they were apparently struck by a car in a hit-skip incident in Willowick.

Willoughby-Eastlake bus officials tell WKYC the elementary school kids were getting off a school bus near East 300th St. and Barjode Road Monday afternoon when they were hit by a vehicle that went around the bus. The bus driver apparently tried to warn the children by honking the bus' horn as they were crossing the street, but they were still hit.

The suspect vehicle then fled the scene on Forest Grove heading for the Euclid area. It is described as a smaller red car with rust towards the bottom and a 30-day tag. In addition, the driver is described as a short female who may have a bun in her hair and/or a bandanna.

Officials say they were able to visit the students at the hospital, and both were called "troopers." Their exact conditions are unknown at this time.
