PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Three people were taken to area hospitals following an apparent altercation in Painesville late Wednesday night. Police now say one of those injured has died.
The Painesville Police Department says the incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. within the 150 block of East Prospect Street. Three men were allegedly involved in an argument that led to two of them being stabbed and another suffering a cut to his head.
One of the victims, 58-year-old Gabriel Lopez-Reyes of Painesville, was taken to University Hospitals TriPoint Medical Center before being airlifted to UH Cleveland Medical Center with a stab wound to his chest. On Monday, Lopez-Reyes died at the hospital.
The other stabbing victim, also 57, was taken by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights with a wound to his stomach along with the 27-year-old man with a cut on his head.
While authorities were on scene, Lake County sheriff's deputies assisted Painesville police with clearing the two-story building where the fight took place, and Fairport Harbor EMS crews were also involved. The matter remains under investigation, and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
