A week after finding out that their field trip to Washington D.C. was canceled by their tour company, Mentor's 8th grade students have a new trip itinerary, which will feature an overnight stay at Cedar Point.
On Thursday, May 17, students and chaperones will board the bus for a one-day trip to Cedar Point, which will include free tickets, two meals, and a night's stay at the Hotel Breakers for a discounted rate.
The following morning, students will head on the buses for a trip to Cleveland and have their choice of one of three activities:
- The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
- The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- or The Nautica Queen on the Cuyahoga River
The final leg of the trip will take the students to FirstEnergy Stadium and an on-field photo with the entire Mentor 8th grade class.
Parents are invited to an informational meeting on Monday, May 14 at the Mentor Fine Arts Center starting at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will last no longer than an hour, a Google Slides presentation will be made available for those who are unable to attend.
Mentor's planned trip to Washington was eliminated when notified last week by Discovery Tours that they were unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms. Since then, the company has canceled all of its school trips and declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Meanwhile, the Ohio Attorney General's office has received more than 450 complaints from parents from districts across the state.
