City of Willoughby Hills files request for restraining order against mayor

The city claims the way the mayor has attempted to remove and replace council is unlawful.

WILLOUGHBY HILLS -- The city of Willoughby Hills on Friday filed a request for a restraining order against Mayor Robert Weger amid his dispute with city council.

Weger fired six council members this week, citing "gross misconduct, malfeasance, misfeasance and nonfeasance in office." The move, permitted by the city charter, cleaned house of all but one council member.

The city filed the request in the Lake County Court of Common Pleas, claiming Weger's attempted removal and replacement of city council members is illegal. Should a judge decide to grant the order, it would at least temporarily void the mayor's move.

Weger fired John Plecnik, David M. Fiebig, Laura Lenz, Janet Majka, Laura Pizmoht and Nancy Fellows, all named in the civil suit's court records.

Willoughby Hills Police Chief Christopher Collins issued a statement Friday morning noting that his department is not currently investigating Weger or any council members for criminal activity.
