MENTOR -- The U.S. Coast Guard announced that the search for a missing Mentor swimmer was suspended Sunday afternoon.
Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Mentor Fire Department were looking for 46-year-old Robert Allan, of Mentor, since Saturday afternoon. Allen was on a boat with another person when he reportedly jumped overboard to go for a swim in Mentor Lagoons Natural Preserve and Marina. He was reportedly wearing a green life jacket when he went into the water.
Coast Guard officials say the other person lost sight of Allan and called for help around 5 p.m.
Crews searched 48 square miles for Allan, resuming just after 7 a.m. Sunday. The search was suspended after four hours.
