BOULDER, Colo. — One of the victims of Monday's mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado, was originally from Northeast Ohio.
Lynn Murray, 62, was raised in Mentor before attending Ohio University. She was one of 10 people shot and killed yesterday at the King Soopers supermarket.
Murray was a retired photo editor whose resume included publications like Glamour, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan. In an interview with The Denver Post, her daughter Olivia Mackenzie called her "the biggest light in everybody’s life."
"My mom was the least deserving person to die this way," Olivia added, with tears in her eyes.
Murray's husband, John Mackenzie, echoed those sentiments when speaking with the Associated Press.
"She's the kindest person I ever knew, hands down. She had an aura about her that was the coolest freakin' thing you’d ever want to know. She was just a cool chick," John said. "She had it all together — she really did."
In addition to her husband and daughter, Murray is also survived by a son. Her former Mentor classmates are asking the community to meet for a prayer and celebration of life at 10 a.m. on Saturday in front of the high school, and mourners had already begun leaving flowers there Wednesday afternoon.
The nine other victims ranged in age from 20-65, and included Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley. A suspect has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder.
