LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — A 42-year-old woman -- identified as Jacqueline M. Ferebee of Cleveland -- has died following an early morning crash, which happened at the entrance to Headlands Beach State Park just north of Route 44 in Lake County.

It was around 5:08 a.m. when authorities received a call about the crash in which a 2021 Polaris Slingshot had struck the entrance gate that was across the roadway as the park was closed during the overnight hours, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities say the vehicle continued northbound and went off the roadway before coming to final rest in the brush off the east side of the street.

Ferebee was the only occupant in the vehicle. The Highway Patrol says she was wearing her seat belt at the time.

“It is unknown at this time if alcohol, drugs or speed were a factor in this crash,” according to the press release.

The crash remains under investigation.
