Crews in Perry Township rescue driver after truck falls down 75-foot ravine

The motorist is in serious condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.

PERRY, Ohio — A motorist is in serious condition after going off of the side of a road in Perry Township and crashing down a 75-foot ravine.

According to a Facebook post from the Perry Joint Fire District, the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Crews were dispatched to Blair Road for a report of a vehicle off the road and over a hill with an unknown amount of occupants inside.

Once rescuers arrived, they confirmed that a truck had gone off the road and approximately 75 feet down a ravine. They also found out that a bystander had made their way down to the vehicle.

A rescuer with EMS equipment was lowered down to the crash scene by rope to check on the driver. Because the motorist had sustained multiple injuries, rescuers utilized a basket stretcher to safely stabilize and move the patient to the top.

By 12:34 p.m., Metro Life Flight arrived near the scene. Ten minutes later, the motorist and rescuer were taken safely to the top. As of Tuesday evening, the motorist is in serious condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.
