A person driving a truck struck the side of a police cruiser on Christmas.

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A person driving a truck struck the side of a Willoughby police cruiser on Christmas Day.

According to the Willoughby Police Department, a Willoughby officer was assisting a motorist on SR2 eastbound (east of Lost Nation Rd.) who was involved in a single-car accident due to adverse road conditions at about 11:16 a.m. on Sunday. While the officer was standing outside near the motorist’s vehicle observing on-coming traffic, he could see an out-of-control motorist/vehicle coming toward him.

The officer proceeded to jump on the median wall for safety as the out-of-control vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Tundra truck, struck the passenger side of marked Unit 816.  Both vehicles sustained disabling damage as a result of the incident.

Neither the officer nor the 63-year-old operator of the truck were injured as a result of the incident. The operator of the vehicle was cited for Failure To Control and was issued a court date.
