LAKELINE, Ohio — Another earthquake rattled offshore near Lake County early Thursday morning. The United States Geological Survey reports the 2.1 magnitude quake was approximately 3 kilometers northwest of Lakeline – which is located near Eastlake – in Lake County.
The quake was registered with a depth of 1.9 kilometers shortly before 4 a.m.
This latest earthquake marks the third reported near Eastlake this month. A 2.8 magnitude quake was recorded on Jan. 4, which was then followed by a 2.0 magnitude event less than 24 hours later.
Some people are commenting in a Mentor Facebook group that they felt the quake.
"It was more of a quick jolt here," one person described. "No rumbling or anything."
Jeff Fox with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources had previously told 3News the quake felt at the beginning of the month hit around the same location as the 4.0 magnitude shaker that struck in 2019 associated with a fault line in Lake Erie.
"We already have a seismometer in Lake County at the Lake Erie Bluffs,” Fox said. “This summer we're actually going to go and improve that site because we're getting a lot more activity there now, we're able to detect more activity.”
