LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — An investigation is underway following a fatal crash that happened in Lake County on Thursday.
Willoughby police say they received a call at around 4:05 p.m. for an accident in the area of Route 2 West, just east of the Vine Street exit.
While responding to the accident scene, police say traffic was slowing down. Nearly four minutes later, a flatbed tow truck traveling West on Route 2 rear-ended a plumbing truck, causing the plumbing truck to strike another vehicle. The tow truck then struck a second vehicle.
According to police, the driver of the tow truck, a 24-year-old man, was extracted from the cab and was transported to UH Lake West Medical Center.
State Route 2 West was closed at Lost Nation Road following the crash. The Lake County Crash Investigation Unit was called to the scene.
Officials say that the freeway opened at around 9:45 p.m.
Willoughby police is asking anyone who may have witnessed the two truck traveling on State Route 2 prior to the crash or who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at 440-951-1234.
