Local 107-year-old woman reveals her secret to longevity

As her birthday approaches, local great-great grandmother looks back on living 107 years
Secret to long life? Not complaining, according to local 107-year old

WICKLIFFE, Ohio -- This week, a woman in Michigan became the world's oldest living person at 116-years-young.

To get perspective on what it might be like, Channel 3's Andrew Horansky went searching for centenarians here in Northeast Ohio.

And that is how he met 107-year old Lona Collins.

Though 15 years shy of the oldest living person on record, Collins is proud of her age and all she has lived through.

It includes two World Wars, along with the invention of television and the automobile.

Born in a rural part of Oklahoma in 1907, her family settled in southwest Ohio when she was still a little girl.

"We used to go in a horse and buggy!" she said.

So much can change in a lifetime, though, and it seems that Collins has never given age a second thought.

"I guess I never worried!" she said, adding that it never bothered her when people wanted to know how old she was.

"What the difference?" she asked. "You're as old as you are? So what? You made the best out of it that you could."

In her time, she has beaten cancer twice and was married 65 years. Today even her great-grandchildren have children of their own.

Her advice? "Don't go crabbin'!" she says with a smile. Humor and patience can apparently go a long way.

Proving there are still milestones at any age, Lona Collins turns 108 next month.
