MENTOR, Ohio -- She's an eighth grader at Mentor Memorial Middle School, but she also happens to be faster than any middle school girl the United States, running two miles in cross-country.
We're talking about 13-year-old Savannah Dennison, whose talents transcend the course.
Her family and friends say she's a superior runner, determined to break records, show her teammates the way, and be the best person she can be.
"It's pretty awesome. Savannah has grown up with running. Ever since I was pregnant, he's been coaching cross-country, and we've been at races. We're always at pasta dinners, we own Second Sole and do all these races for timing, and she's always at them," Terese Dennison, Savannah's mother, said.
Savannah recorded her best time last month, clocking in at 11:16, 17 seconds faster than the second-fastest time in the country.
"I'm like, 'Oh, my gosh, I'm the fastest in the nation, but I feel like I could go a little further," Savannah told us.
Her parents, Bill and Terese Dennison says her talent runs in the family.
"Running is something that I've always done. Started running with my dad when I was six years old. Always said if I had a family, that my kids would run and my wife would run," Bill said.
And, Savannah needs little guidance these days, according to her dad.
"When I coach high school kids, we always have to talk through the moments...I don't have to talk through the moments with her anymore," Bill said. "She's kind of a seasoned pro right now. She knows what she needs to do in those races."
Savannah's coach, Tedd Wagner says beyond her raw ability, she's an excellent teammate, and a great person.
"I like to say that Savannah is an outstanding runner, but she's even a better teammate and better young lady. She's an amazing young lady. She works so hard, and her success is a testament to all that hard work," Wagner said.
For Savannah, running is just one part of the experience of cross-country. She values the relatisonships she's built.
"Being here with the middle school girls, it's really nice, because we're all like a family," Savannah said.
So, what's next for this sweet, speed demon?
"I think I can go and win a high school state title," Savannah told us.
We think you can, too, Savannah!
