MENTOR, Ohio — The principal and a teacher at Hopkins Elementary School in Mentor have tested positive for the Coronavirus, Superintendent Bill Porter confirmed Monday.
Mr. Porter confirmed the news of the principal's diagnosis in a letter to parents and families Sunday. After attending school all last week, the principal began feeling symptoms late Friday evening, the letter stated. While she is feeling okay, she received positive results the following day and is now quarantining at home.
Officials with the Lake County General Health District have been contacted and are working to conduct contact tracing.
In a second letter released Monday, Superintendent Porter also confirmed that a teacher had also tested positive for COVID-19. Parents of students in the teacher's class were notified of the diagnosis in a separate email, the letter reports.
Mentor Schools tell 3News that two additional teachers who have reported symptoms are awaiting test results.
In response to the positive cases, the school is conducting school remotely both Tuesday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 9 (a previously scheduled remote day).
