MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor High School has been considered "all clear" after the building was placed in lockdown on Thursday afternoon.
According to Mentor Public Schools and the city of Mentor, the cause of the lockdown was an emergency notification alert alarm going off. The lockdown was done for precautionary purposes, but no threat was found.
"We know this was a scary situation for many students, parents, guardians and staff. School safety is our top priority and we will always take all concerns very seriously," Mentor school officials wrote in a message to parents and the community after the all clear was given.
School officials add that they will be investigating how the phone alarm was triggered.
"An emergency notification alert alarm from our phone system went off in the building and we are currently searching the school with Mentor Police trying to determine where it came from," Mentor Public Schools wrote in its lockdown message. "At this point, we have NOT found an emergency situation."
The city of Mentor confirmed the lockdown in a post on Twitter.
