WICKLIFFE, Ohio — Just one day after a garage explosion took the life of a Wickliffe man, video footage of the deadly incident has been revealed.
In what investigators believe to be a "tragic accident", 18-year-old Nathan Greger died Sunday morning after a garage storing fireworks exploded, igniting the structure in flames.
In a cell phone video capture shortly after the explosion, heavy black smoke billowing and sparks can be seen behind the house.
Police traffic scanner audio was provided painting a grim picture of what many in the area witnessed.
Police scanner: "I'm getting some calls about and explosion. I have heavy smoke in the area. We have fire inside a garage. Looks like fireworks storage."
Police scanner: "He was in his backyard and he saw a male outside the garage on fire yelling for help and that was just before the explosion."
Police body cam video shows fireworks coming from the site of the explosion.
Wickliffe resident Michelle DiFrangia heard the noise, she told 3News, "It just sounded like fireworks. I couldn't see fireworks, but that is what the sound reminded me of, fireworks."
A GoFundMe has been set up by a friend of the Greger family to help pay for funeral expenses. The official page can be seen HERE.
