According to the Madison Township Police Department, officers responded to calls of a single-vehicle crash that occurred on the 2500 block of Dock Road at approximately 7:37 p.m.

When police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Matthew T. McCabe Jr. trapped in his Honda Civic. Madison Township firefighters pulled the victim from his car and transported him to University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center by helicopter.

McCabe died at the hospital according to Madison Township police.

An initial investigation revealed that McCabe was traveling northbound on Dock Road trailing two vehicles. Both vehicles in front of McCabe began to slow down in anticipation of turning into a residence. McCabe swerved to avoid contact with the vehicles causing him to briefly exit the roadway.

When McCabe attempted to reenter the roadway, he overcorrected and lost control of his vehicle. His vehicle began to spin out, eventually exiting the roadway again, crashing into two trees before coming to a stop.

Madison Township police believe that speed was a factor in the crash.
