Looking to avoid the beach crowds on July 4th weekend? There are alternatives in Northeast Ohio

If places with a lack of social distancing make you uncomfortable, don't be afraid to look for alternatives.

KIRTLAND, Ohio — Headed out this holiday weekend? You’re obviously not alone, as many look for ways to enjoy this beautiful weather. But with coronavirus continuing to spread, it may be best to search for alternatives to popular locations.

So many are looking for ways to be outdoors and stay cool at the same time. Beaches are the obvious go-to option and on Friday, it was no different.

For example, at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Beach, social distancing was nearly impossible.

One staff member told 3News the parking lot there filled up quicker than he’s seen in 20 years.

If that makes you uncomfortable, don't be afraid to look for alternatives.

Lake Metroparks is encouraging everyone to look out for hidden gems.

One we found was Chagrin River Park. Visiting a place like this is completely different from the beaches. There's plenty of space for social distancing underneath the trails, miles of trails to explore, and for when you're ready to cool down.

And of course, there are plenty of other options around Northeast Ohio. So before you head out for the same old experience, explore something you haven't seen.

You might be pleasantly surprised.
