Veteran Northeast Ohio fire lieutenant dies following recent retirement

Alan Van Kramer spent 35 years with the Madison Fire Department before retiring last month.

MADISON, Ohio — The Madison Fire Department is mourning after losing one of its longtime firefighters.

Alan Van Kramer, a 35-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department, passed away at his home on Jan. 3 alongside his family and friends. 

Madison fire officials announced the news on Wednesday via Facebook. 

"It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of Lieutenant Alan VanKramer. Alan passed away this evening at home with family and friends by his side," said the Madison Fire District in a post. 

VanKramer spent 35 years with the Madison Fire Department, ending his career as a lieutenant before retiring last month.

The calling hours for VanKramer will be on Friday, Jan. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Behm's Funeral Home in Madison. 

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Madison. A reception at the church will follow.
