CLEVELAND — Members of the Willoughby Police Department are continuing to stand by the family of fallen officer Jason Gresko, more than 10 years after his death in the line of duty.
Several members of the department recently attended the middle school graduation of Gresko's daughter Olivia.
The department posted pictures from the graduation on social media Thursday, showing officers posing with Olivia, who is pictured holding a framed photograph of her late father.
"Congratulations Olivia! The best way to predict the future is to create it," the department said. "Good luck in high school! You’ll always have a friend at WPD."
Jason Gresko was killed in an accident involving a drunk driver in September 2012. He was survived by his wife Sandra and Olivia, who was 2 years old at the time.
"When faced with a split-second decision, he chose to risk his own life and, in turn, save the family of the man who caused his death," Chief David Easthon of the Cleveland Clinic Police, where Gresko worked full time, said in 2013.
