LITCHFIELD, Ohio — Life can change in an instant, like it did on Route 18 and Yost Road for one motorcyclist.
A car veered into oncoming traffic, hitting the bike almost head-on.
Medina County Fire Chaplain John Smith was on scene.
"His leg was severely injured and bleeding and any time we're dealing with a possible arterial bleed with that, you can bleed out in a matter of minutes," Smith said.
Mark, the man riding the bike is a former firefighter. he wants privacy while recovering, but is also hoping to find a good Samaritan credited with saving his life.
She improvised a tourniquet out of elastic for a severe bleed on his leg.
He didn't know it at the time, but with his injury he could've bled out in minutes.
"She was in one of the vehicles that was going by and stopped and helped and we just want to know who she is because we as a department, the victim and the family of the victim would like to thank them in person," Smith said.
Smith has no doubt her actions saved a life.
"He would not be around today, it would have had a completely different outcome if they hadn't done this," Smith said.
He hopes people take note, and get trained in how to stop a bleed, since you never know when it will come in handy,
pointing to training called "stop the bleed" that their station and others offer several times a year.
It includes how to use and improvise a tourniquet.
Smith was able to give us a quick lesson right there, he hopes this "Stop the Bleed" training becomes as common as CPR certification.
