LORAIN, Ohio — A man is dead and another is injured after a Saturday night car crash in Lorain.
Lorain police officers responded to a single-car crash at approximately 10:35 on Saturday night near Kolbe Road and Rossi Way.
An initial investigation into the incident revealed that a Dodge Neon was driving north on Kolbe Road. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Nicholas Fenik, of Vermillion, passed Oakcrest Drive, then failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway leading to the car leaving the roadway on the right side of the street.
Fenik lost control of the vehicle, struck a culvert causing the car to overturn. The car came to rest right side up in the front yard of a residence on the 4100 block of Kolbe Road.
The front seat passenger, 28-year-old Trent Neal, of Lorain, was extracted from the vehicle with life-threatening injuries.
Fenik sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. Neal was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he later died from his injuries.
According to Lorain police, excessive speed and reckless driving appear to be factors in the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs are also suspected to be contributing factors.
The crash remains under investigation.
