ELYRIA, Ohio — A 15-year-old student faces "multiple" felony charges after bringing a firearm onto school property, according to the Elyria Police Department.
According to a post on the department's Facebook account, officers responded to a call from a staff member at the Black River Career Prep School on North West River Road to report a student who may be in possession of a firearm on school property at approximately 11:01 a.m. on Wednesday.
When officers arrived to the school's campus, they detained the unnamed 15-year-old student without incident. At that point, the school was placed on a temporary lockdown.
During the officers' initial investigation, it was revealed that a fight had broken out between multiple students previous to the day's events. Information was given to police that suggested the student may have brought a firearm onto school property.
When questioned, the juvenile admitted to bringing a firearm on property with them, but it was not inside the school. The firearm was located in a nearby wooded area on school property.
The student was arrested and now faces several felony weapons charges. They have been transported to a juvenile detention facility.
