Lorain Police: 40-year-old man killed in bike crash, officials investigating

The driver, identified as Michael Mac Mahan, ran off the side of the road and struck a utility pole.

LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain Police Department is investigating a bicycle crash that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man. 

A Huffy mountain bike with a 50cc engine was traveling north on Fulton Road near East 28th Street when the driver lost control while making a left-hand turn on Tuesday, October 5 just after 1 p.m. 

The driver, identified as Michael Mac Mahan of Lorain, ran off the side of the road and struck a utility pole. On impact, Mac Mahan was ejected from the bike, striking a utility pole before landing on a nearby sidewalk. 

Mac Mahan was life flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. He later died from his injuries. 

Mr. Mac Mahan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor. 

The crash remains under investigation.
