VERMILION, Ohio — An elderly Vermilion resident was found dead in a pond near his home on Tuesday evening.
According to the Vermilion Police Department, a resident and neighbor of the 76-year-old man called into police on Tuesday asking for a welfare check on the man.
When Vermilion Police arrived at the man's home, they found the man frozen in the small landscaping pond. Officers also found groceries near the scene.
At this time, VPD believes that he may have accidentally slipped in and was unable to get out. The Lorain County Coroner's Office has yet to provide a cause of death, however.
