Ohio State Highway Patrol: 92-year-old Elyria man killed in Ohio Turnpike crash involving tractor-tanker

Kenneth Klingshirn, 92, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

CLEVELAND — A 92-year-old Elyria man was killed and a driver suffered minor injuries after rear-ending a tractor-tanker on the Ohio Turnpike in Ottawa County, state troopers said.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday near milepost 82 in Harris Township. Troopers say a Lincoln Nautilus driven by a 78-year-old Elyria resident was going west when it hit the back of the Kenworth semi-tractor-tanker driven by a 37-year-old Maryland man.

A passenger in the Lincoln, Kenneth Klingshirn, 92, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The tractor-tanker lay disabled on the road after the crash prompted what troopers called a "mechanical issue." Troopers said the tanker driver was treated by medics at the scene for "possible injuries."

The highway patrol is investigating the crash.
