AMHERST, Ohio — An Amherst restaurant left badly damaged when a car crashed into it last year has announced plans to shut its doors.
Barra tacos + cocktails on Park Avenue is inviting patrons to come for a "final meal" this Sunday, Jan. 21. The occasion will be followed by the restaurant's "indefinite closure," with no apparent plans to reopen.
"To our incredible patrons, thank you," Barra wrote on Facebook. "Join us for a final meal this weekend as we bid farewell to our outstanding staff."
Barra made unwanted headlines this past spring when a Volkswagen Tiguan driven by 18-year-old Connor Cordy slammed into the facing of the business during the early morning hours of May 27. Cody and a 16-year-old passenger both went to the hospital with injuries before eventually being released, and Cody ended up paying a $190 fine for failing to control his vehicle.
While Barra worked to repair its entrance and wound up welcoming customers again within months, officials now say it was unfortunately not enough to save the business.
"Despite unwavering community support, the impact of a car accident has left us unable to recover," the restaurant wrote.
The closure of its Amherst store now leaves Barra with just one remaining location on Columbus Avenue in Sandusky.
