The body of a 4-year-old boy was recovered after a home burst into flames in the center of Elyria Saturday afternoon, sources tell WKYC.
The blaze broke out on the 400 block of 2nd St., about two blocks away from the fire department and city hall. Crews from other departments assisted on scene, according to authorities.
Family members tell us a mother, grandfather and two other children were inside the home at the time, but they all made it out safely. Fire officials say the four-year-old boy ran upstairs when the house was overwhelmed with smoke and flames.
Investigators combed through charred debris for hours before finding the boy's body.
Fire crews began demolishing the house this afternoon. They tell us the fire was difficult to fight due to strong winds and the structure being an older home.
The victim's name has not yet been confirmed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
