AVON LAKE, Ohio — Avon Lake police say a domestic violence suspect is in custody following a standoff that led to a nearby elementary school closing its doors on Monday.
Police say on Monday morning at 6 a.m., a female victim told officers she left her residence "after an altercation with her husband." Police obtained a domestic violence arrest warrant for the man involved.
"The male was reported to be in possession of a firearm within his residence, and the ELCERT (Eastern Lorain County Emergency Response Team) team was activated," police noted in its release.
At 10:40 a.m., police say the man came out of his home and was arrested without incident after communicating with Avon Lake officers.
Meanwhile, the Avon Lake City School District reported that "due to ongoing situation in the residential neighborhood involving Avon Lake police near Redwood Elementary, the building will be closed today, Monday, September 16th."
