CLEVELAND — Avon Lake police are investigating after a man collapsed and died amid a confrontation with a neighbor on Thursday evening.

According to a press release, the incident happened on Beck Road around 6:50 p.m. Police say a woman called to report that her adult son was unresponsive and had no pulse and that he had been involved in an "altercation" with a neighbor.

The man, 51, had confronted his neighbor over a dispute about the property line, police said. According to investigator, the 51-year-old "intruded on to the neighbor's property and shoved a trash can at the neighbor."

The neighbor shoved the trash can back at the 51-year-old, and police say he fainted and collapsed "at that moment." Avon Lake paramedics arrived, found the man had a faint pulse and rendered CPR. Police say he was taken by ambulance to an Avon hospital and died a "short time" later.

No charges have been filed, police say.

Police did not identify any of the people involved in the incident.

The Avon Lake Police Department's detective bureau is handling the investigation alongside the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office and Lorain County Coroner.
