AVON LAKE, Ohio — A 78-year-old man is in custody after calling 911 to report he had stabbed his wife at their home on Wedgewood Drive, according to the Avon Lake Police Department.
The incident happened on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at approximately 8:54 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers reportedly found the man in the garage, where he was taken into custody.
Avon Lake police say that inside the home, officers found the victim -- a 70-year-old woman -- sitting in a recliner with wounds to her neck, chest and hands.
According to police, paramedics provided first aid before transporting her to St. John Medical Center, where she is in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as Woodie Francis, has been charged with attempted murder and felonious assault. He is being held at the Lorain County Jail.
During an arraignment hearing on Wednesday morning, a $1 million bond was set for Francis. A pre-trial is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 9 a.m.
