The Elyria Police Department, Avon Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) executed a residential search warrant on Thursday in the 1500 block of Crab Apple Lane in Avon.

Elyria police say that the search came as law enforcement officials were investigating Derrick Jackson, who officials believe is distributing drugs throughout Lorain County and Elyria.

During the search, officers found and seized $15,000 in cash, one firearm and more than 4.5 ounces of drugs, including heroin and cocaine.

As a result, police arrested the 29-year-old Jackson on the following charges:

  • Trafficking in drugs (2 counts)
  • Possession of drugs (2 counts)
  • Having weapons under disability (1 count)

"This operation underscores our commitment to collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities. We will continue to work diligently to rid our streets of illegal drugs and bring those responsible to justice," said Elyria Police Chief Bill Pelko.

Currently, Jackson is being held at the Lorain County Jail until his appearance in Avon Lake Municipal Court.
