Car slams into 2 North Ridgeville homes in residential neighborhood

The driver of the car was taken to an area hospital while the passenger walked away.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — Police are investigating after a car slammed into a pair of houses in the 6800 block of Independence Blvd in North Ridgeville on Friday afternoon.

It all stared with a 911 call.

"A car crashed into a house," the caller told the dispatcher. "A car crashed into a house? Yes. Okay stay and wait for the police and I'll get the fire department," the dispatcher responded.

The car had a pair of occupants. "The driver was transported for a medical emergency, unknown, and the passenger actually walked away," North Ridgeville Fire Chief John Reece told 3News.

Homeowner Mey Kosal is counting her blessings as she watched firefighters separate her siding from the car that landed in her empty garage. Kosal and her family had just gone to a local grocery store before the incident. Normally at that time, she says there would have been a car in the garage and children playing in the yard.

The car may have only hit two houses, but it tore up the yards of several other properties to make quite an impact as it traveled by.

"I heard a loud noise, it sounded like a motor and then I saw a car like fly by. And I didn't think too much of it at the time," neighbor Camille Switzer said.

Now, a special team is making sure the homes hit are structurally sound so families can safely return. But the event will stick with many of these neighbors in a new North Ridgeville development.

"You can see that the driver came up our lawn, they came from down the road and he kind of swerved in and out of the different properties," Switzer said.

This is a developing story. Stay with 3News for more details as they become available.
